Structural Integrity Certification According to FIA Appendix K
Remet Controlli has been performing structural integrity certification for years in accordance with FIA regulations (Appendix K). This certification is mandatory for all historic FIA and CSAI (ACI Sport) races involving sports cars and formula vehicles from Group GR onward with engines over 2000 cc, and across all major European championships such as CER, P.MO, VdeV, SuperSport Cup, Le Mans Classic, prototypes, and others.
The components that must undergo Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) on each vehicle include:
All suspension arms, wishbones, and links
Uprights and roll-bars (ROPS)
Wheel hubs, drive hubs (half-shaft supports), and steering knuckles
Steering arms
Steering box and column (pinion, rack, and all motion transmission components)
Brake pedal
Wheels or light alloy wheel flanges
Plus any spare parts
The following inspection methods are used:
Visual Inspection (VT)
Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT)
All components, including spares, are permanently and uniquely marked with a mechanical engraver as per FIA guidelines. The marking includes:
Vehicle identification
Serial number
FIA component type code
Component position in the vehicle
Month and year of the test
For example: TTTT/NN/CCCC/MM/YY(This type of marking is indelible and can only be removed by mechanical means. It does not affect the structural integrity of the component.)
At the end of testing, a final test certificate is issued, which must be attached to the Historic Technical Passport (HTP).
Inspection Frequency (as per FIA Appendix K regulations)
Every 2 years for F1 cars
Every 3 years for all other cars
Over the years, after inspecting numerous race cars, we have found that specific stress points are frequently cracked or at risk of failure. For your safety, we recommend routine inspections even if not yet due.
Our lab also offers advanced diagnostic services for any additional component defects, using methods such as:
Tomography
Metallographic Analysis
SEM Analysis
Radiographic Testing (RT)
Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
Acoustic Emission (AE)
Ground Wave (GW)
Infrared (IR)
Thanks to the experience of our technicians and consultants specialized in the restoration of vintage cars and motorcycles, we can also certify the authenticity of parts, adding value to your historic vehicle.
